What the result means
A document missing from the register is not by itself a forgery. Only powers of attorney certified since July 2014 are searchable online, and records from consular offices reach the register with a delay. We show exactly what the register returns and give no legal assessment of the document.
Where to find the register number
The register number is printed on the document itself — in the certification clause at the end, next to the date and the signature of the consul or notary. It looks like 77/123-н/77-2026-4-567: the first digits are the regional or consular office code, then the service part and the year.
Three things are needed for the check: the number, the date of certification and the surname of whoever certified the document. The register does not ask for the details of the principal or the representative — and neither do we.
How soon a consular power of attorney appears in the register
Not on the day of issue. Consular offices transmit records to the Federal Notarial Chamber register in batches, and an entry may take up to two weeks to appear. A freshly issued document you are holding may well not be searchable yet.
Plan your timeline with a margin. If the transaction in Russia cannot be postponed, allow up to two weeks from the date of certification for the entry to appear, and do not schedule it for the days right after you receive the document.
The delay does not invalidate the document: a power of attorney takes effect when it is certified, not when the entry appears in the register.
Why checking from abroad is harder
The official register service requires a captcha, and some familiar government services open poorly from abroad or are unavailable altogether. For someone living abroad who had a document certified at a consulate, checking it the usual way is noticeably harder than from inside Russia.

How to check that a power of attorney has not been revoked
A revocation is also entered in the register, and the check shows it together with the record itself. This matters more than it seems: the principal may revoke a power of attorney at any time and is not obliged to notify the representative personally.
If you are about to act under a power of attorney issued long ago, run the check on the day of the transaction rather than in advance.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a consular power of attorney missing right after it is issued?
Consular offices do not transmit records to the Federal Notarial Chamber register instantly: an entry may appear within two weeks of certification. Until then the check returns “not found” — normal for a recently issued document. Allow for this when planning a transaction in Russia.
Is the check really free?
Yes. The register answers free of charge, no registration is needed, we do not ask for contact details, and the result is shown right on the page.
Which powers of attorney can be checked online?
Those certified since July 2014 — by notaries, consuls or authorised officials. Earlier documents are not reflected in the electronic register.
What if the power of attorney has been revoked?
A revoked document cannot be used: a transaction based on it may be challenged. A new power of attorney is required — it can be certified at a consulate, and we help prepare the documents and book the appointment.
